Welcome... latest news!

Monday 6th February 2012

A rather foggy start for the early players which cleared and the morning turned out to be very pleasant from then on. Playing the shorter course due to ground conditions there was some really great scores returned today. Chris Small taking top spot had a fantastic score of 53 points, 24 out, 29 back, seems he could do no wrong today. Runner up was Jim Samuel with 45 points, also on 45 points was John Turner taking 3rd on a CPO. George Bullamore was 4th with 43 points also on a CPO. John Turner recorded the only 2 of the day. But the highlight of the day was a 'Hole in One' recorded by Derek Smith on the 2nd hole.

Thursday 2nd February 2012

A day to be well wrapped up, bright and sunny it may have been but it was very cold and frosty for the members playing their Winter League Matches

Monday 30th January 2012

Another frosty cold morning particularly so for the early starters. Conditions improved for the later starters in as much they could putt on frost free greens. Thirty three members turned out to play in today's stableford competition. Playing a shorter course scores were expected to high and this was the case when John Morton-Carruthers and Gordon White both returned 45 points, John taking first place on a CPO. 3rd and 4th was also decided on a CPO, both Ian Melrose and David Slater returning 43 points, Ian taking 3rd. There was three 2's today, one each for Michael Cross & Sandy Thorburn, two for John Turner

Thursday 26th January 2012

A rather pleasant start to the mornings golf that turned wet and nasty for the later starters. Today ten teams took part in a Yellow Ball Stableford. The winning team with 82 points was Derek Smith, Don Hill and Peter Gouge. Runners up were Chris Small, David Slater & David Wrightson with 78 points

Please note that the Team Stableford scheduled for the 6th February has been put back a week until the 13th February, we will play a stableford on the 6th

Monday 23rd January 2012

A pleasant sunny morning with a rather cool breeze greeted the members today for the 3rd round of the winter medal 'Eclectic' Playing a very varied course of summer and winter greens there was some reasonably good scores. Three of the top four returning net 69's. So on a CPO 1st was George Bullamore, 2nd was David Dalglish and 3rd was Chris Small, 4th with a net 73 was Allan Benson also on a CPO. There were seven  2's recorded today, two by Chris Small and one each for George Bullamore, Brian Rowe, David Dalglish, Roger Rees and Mike Bland

Thursday 19th January 2012

It was back to Winter league matches today. A mostly dry but very windy morning for those taking part. Good results brought some upward movement in the table for a couple of teams.

Next weeks team event start sheet is available to view

Monday 16th January 2012

Three nights of frost left the course quite hard and bouncy this morning so it was a surprise to find members returning such high score albeit on the shorter course. So with a great 45 points Eddie Robson recorded his first individual win (he's had a few good results in team events) Runner up with 44 points was Alan Watson, 3rd was Malcolm Mackenzie with 41 points and 4th on a CPO was Joe Hardon with 40 points. 2's recorded by Roger Rees, Ian Melrose & Chris Small

Thursday 12th January 2012

A very pleasant day for golf with a light but cool wind, excellent conditions for some good scoring which there was but not as high as had been expected. Harry Martin, David Dalglish and Mike Bland all returned 37 points so on a card playoff Harry was the winner, David was runner up and Mike 3rd. Alan Nixon was 4th with 36 points. The only 2 of the day was recorded by Mike Bland

Monday 9th January 2012

A bit of a damp start to the morning for the members taking part in a Texas Scramble. The later starters managing to play in sunshine. 30 members turned out to play in the event with George Dunning, Trevor Hardy and new boy John Turner taking 1st place with a net 66.4. Runners up were Ian Melrose, Ernie Henderson & Mike Bland with a net 68.2. Jim Samuel, Derek Smith & Ray Arthurs were 3rd with a net 68.3

Thursday 5th January 2012

Not the best of starts to the new year. Over night heavy rain resulted in the course having to be closed, so no play for the members taking part in the Winter League, a half awarded to all matches

Thursday 29th December 2011

Well one wonders if the members that turned out to play were hardy or foolhardy. The latter probably best describes them as it was blowing a gale with some very heavy showers of rain. So with just 12 members turning out to play in the MedalFord, Mike Bland with a score of 19 was declared the winner, runner up was Ian Melrose with 20 and Alan Watson with 21 was 3rd. 2's today recorded by Mike Bland & Graham Orange

On a sadder note the committee would bring to your attention that Francis Fitzpatrick died on Wednesday 28th December 2011. Francis had been a long standing member of the Mallards and a very good supporter of the section.

Start sheet for Monday 9th Jan 2012 added

Thursday 22nd December 2011

On what turned out to be quite a pleasant day for golf there was rather a low turn out by members with just 19 turning up to play. Most likely that with Christmas been close that quite a few found that they had other things to do. David Hoggard and Sandy Thorburn both had very good rounds both returning 40 points, David taking 1st place on a CPO. 3rd was Alan Watson with 39 points. Mike Bland & Don Hill each recorded a 2 and share the pot. Considering the weather of recent the course was in remarkably good condition with just 6 temporary greens being used

Monday 19th December 2011

A rather wet morning for the Mallards Christmas Cracker stableford. Overnight frost followed by early morning rain made the course rather different. Hard bounces early on then flooded greens due to the underlying frost. Still some managed excellent scores, none more so than George Bullamore & Cyril Hankey, both of whom returned 43 points. George taking 1st place on a CPO and therefore 1st choice of the prizes. Third and forth were Alan Watson and David Dalglish with 42 & 41 points. There were 19 prizes in all, a mixture of bottles, chocolate & biscuits. Following the competition 40 members sat down to an excellent Christmas lunch and fun quiz. The quiz being won by Don Hill, who was quickest to answer the tie question

Our next Monday competition with be Monday 9th January 2011, a Texas Scramble

Thursday 15th December 2011

A nice bonus that we were able to play golf today. Again just 17 holes open for play. As it turned out it was quite a pleasant morning to be playing but just 21 members turned out to play. All greens were the winter greens and for some the scoring was very good. So with an excellent 43 points Dennis Massey was the winner, Cyril Hankey was runner up with a very good 41 points and Harry Martin 3rd with 39 points. There was three 2's recorded, one by Mike Bland and two by David Dalglish.

'In the event that golf cannot be played on Monday's Christmas Cracker please be aware that the Christmas Lunch will still be served so turn up at the club by 12.30 for 1pm'

Monday 12th December 2011

It was good that the course was open and playable, but a strict rule of no buggies meant a couple of members had to withdraw from today's team event. 30 members to part in the team stableford with the best 2 scores to count. With just 17 holes open for play two teams returned 72 points each. So on a card playoff the team of Mike Bland, Chris Small & George Dunning won 1st prize, runners up was the team of Gordon Milne, Gordon White & Malcolm Mackenzie

Thursday 8th December 2011

Ah well it was expected, the winter weather would eventually interrupt play. No play today, the course was closed. All Winter League matches were cancelled and each team awarded a half. Due to the fixture list it was going to be difficult to re-arrange the fixture

Monday 5th December 2011

Cold, cold day and good that the course was open. Though a bit wet in places following the weekend rain the greens were in very good condition, just a couple of winter green in use. Considering the cold day there was a reasonably good turn out by members with 26 members entering the competition. So with a good 36 points Alan Watson was declared the winner, runner up was Sandy Thorburn with 35 points, Mike Bland 3rd with 34 points and George Bullamore 4th with 33 points. The only 2 of the day was recorded by Sandy Thorburn

REMINDER THAT FROM NEXT THURSDAY OUR TEE TIME HAS BEEN BROUGHT FORWARD TO 10AM

Next Monday's team event tee time posted here

Thursday 1st December 2011

It's seems that winter has finally arrived. It was a very cool windy day for members taking part in today's stableford competition. Following some heavy rain over the last couple of day's the course was a wee bit wet in places and scoring was difficult. Still with a very good 36 points David Dalglish was 1st. Runner up also with 36 points was Ian Melrose. 3rd & 4th, both with 34 points were John Thwaites & Sandy Thorburn. Roger Rees and Jack Carruthers shared the 2's pot
