October/November Archive...

Thursday 1st October 2009

The stableford final was played today. 26 members took part in the competition played in late summer conditions. Gordon White, a qualifier won with 39 points, as a qualifier he also claimed the stableford Trophy, David Blackett with 38 points was runner up. Malcolm Mackenzie and Allan Benson both recorded 37 points, Malcolm coming out top in a CPO.

Monday 5th October 2009

A cool start to the day but by mid morning it had warmed up into a very pleasant day, and the good weather seemed to inspire a few golfers judging by the scores returned. John Ross with a net 65 pipped Roger Rees by one shot who returned a very nice gross 68 net 66. Gordon Milne and Jim Samuel were 3rd & 4th. George Dunning & David McCulloch shared the 2's pot.
As it was the Medal final and John Ross was a qualifier, John therefore has won the Medal Trophy. With it being the final individual competition of the summer season Gordon Milne has topped the Order of Merit and is therefore our 'Player of the Year' trophy winner. Congratulations both and to all trophy winners of the summer season.

All winners are reminded that the annual prize-giving is on Saturday 14th November 2009 in the clubhouse

Thursday 8th October 2009

An excellent day for the final competition of the 'summer'. The Captains team event. Members playing in the competition represented the Captain (Alan Nixon), Vice Captain (Ian Melrose) or the Past Captain (David McCulloch). Playing a stableford the best 4 combined scores were totalled and a winner declared. This year the Vice Captains team was victorious. His team members were Derek Smith, Cyril Hankey, Roger Rees and Gordon Milne.

Monday 12th October 2009

Today saw the start of the Winter seasons golf and a pleasant day to be playing golf. A stableford competition was the order of the day as will most of the winter competitions be.  David Dalglish got of to a flyer with 43 points and first prize. Jim Samuel with 39 points was runner up. Roger Rees and Gordon White were 3rd & 4th.  John Ross, Roger Rees & David McCulloch shared the 2's pot

Thursday 15th October 2009

Today saw the start of the Winter League, those participating in the matches and a few other members enjoyed an exceptionally warm afternoon in which to play their golf. Other than that nothing else happened today

Monday 19th October 2009

A damp start to the day caused quite a few members to withdraw from today's Bogie competition, as it happed it turned out to be a reasonable morning as the rain ceased. So 16 members did venture out and play and enjoy the competition, John Mason with +5 was the winner, Alan Nixon on +3 and Sandy Thorburn on +2 were second and third, 2's recorded by John Mason and David Slater

Thursday 22nd October 2009

Another good day for golf, light breeze and pleasant warm conditions. This was reflected in the scoring with quite a few members recording scores better than 36 points and a reasonably good turn out for a Thursday with 26 members taking part in today's stableford. With an excellent score of 43 points Ian Melrose ran out a comfortable winner, next best was two returns of 41 points, Roger Rees and David Dalglish, and Robert Waite with his fine 40 points was 4th.

Monday 26th October 2009

Nice to see so many out on a really pleasant day for golf. 30 members played in today's stableford competition and considering the perfect golf conditions scoring was not a high as last week. Never the less there were some good scores no more so that Jim Samuel's 39 points which was good enough for 1st place. Gordon Milne (again) was runner up with 37 points, Roger Rees (yet again) was 3rd and George Dunning 4th. John Mason (again) recorded the only 2 of the day.

Thursday 29th October 2009

Just the Winter League Matches played today plus a few friendly matches. Next weeks Greensome pairing are posted on the Team Event Start Times

Monday 2nd November 2009

Considering the weather on Sunday it was anticipated that the course would have been closed this morning, but happily for those who did turn up or rang to enquire, the back 9 holes were open for play and a 9 hole competition we did play. There was an excellent turn out of 31 members who enjoyed a blustery but pleasant mornings golf. Gordon Milne returned 25 points to take top spot yet again, Malcolm Mackenzie was runner up with 24 points, Sandy Thorburn with 22 points and Douglas Pringle with 21 points were 3rd and 4th.

Thursday 5th November 2009

With the continued rain thro the week the course was again reduced to only the back 9 being open for play, fortunately it is in good condition for play. So with rain falling the members set of to play a 9 holes Greensome stableford. All seemed to enjoy the format, no less so than Gordon White & Douglas Pringle who returned home with a very good 25 points. Also with 25 points was the partnership of Graham Orange & John Ross.

Monday 9th November 2009

A nice cool crisp frosty morning for the start today's team event, especially for the early starters, playing a Yellow-ball team event the team of Derek Smith, Graham Orange and Ray Arthurs won with an excellent 88 points from the team of Jim Cruddas, Douglas Pringle and Michael Cross who returned 87 points.

Thursday 12th November 2009

A quite day, just a few Winter League Matches played today plus a few members out playing friendly matches, all of whom manage to complete their round before the rain started.

Monday 16th November 2009

The weather took it's toll today as a number of members decided to stay at home, never the less 21 hardy souls did play in the blustery, showery conditions and considering it was a 5 club stableford competition there were some excellent scores returned. John Ross with 47 points was declared a comfortable winner, runner up was Jim Cruddas returning a very good 44 points and John Morton-Carruthers was 3rd with 42 points. John Ross recorded the only 2 of the day to take the 2's pot.

Thursday 19th November 2009

Unfortunately the course was closed today, heavy rain, so no golf played

Monday 23rd November 2009

No golf today, the course is closed and likely to remain closed for the rest of the week. About a dozen members did turn up this morning for a coffee and a chat. At the moment there is no access to the course from Crosby on Eden, there is access on all other routes including the road down past Crosby Lodge. The Winter League Matches due to be played on Thursday will either be rearranged for a later date or the points shared.

Check back for updates as to playing conditions.

The draw for next Monday's Texas Scramble will be posted shortly, hopefully we will get the opportunity to play at least 9 holes.

Thursday 26th November 2009

The course is still closed but the flood water has greatly reduced. Today should have seen some Winter League Matches played, but alas it was not to be. There was quite a few members present at the club this morning enjoying a coffee and chat and they agreed to share the points, so each match was halved.

Monday's Texas Scramble has been abandoned and hopefully it will be rearranged for a later date. It was decided to abandon it because of the doubt as to whether the course would be open on Monday, even so if the course does open the members can make their own arrangements on the day. There will be no official competition. If the weather improves as is expected we are hopeful to be playing next Thursday 3rd December.

In the meantime check back here on Saturday afternoon for an update

Saturday 28th November 2009

Course Conditions.

The management are very hopeful that there will be six holes open for play on Monday and the full back 9 by Thursday. The 6 holes available to play on Monday would the the 10th, cut over to the 14th play the 14th to the 18th. So if you want to play a few holes on Monday turn up and play, otherwise have a cuppa and chat

Monday 30th November 2009

Come 10am this morning the head green-keeper came into the club house and said 8 holes were open to play so out went over a dozen members to enjoy some golf, a bit wet in places but surprising good for most of the holes open. 9 holes were actually played as the 18th was played twice. Hopefully there will be some competitive golf on Thursday.
