A brief
update on the past two weeks. Monday 23rd of May's Team event was cancelled due
to the gale force winds and heavy rain. Thursday the 26th May was the 2nd round
of the Medal 'Eclectic' won by Jim Samuel with a net 73, runner up was Alan
Watson with a net 76, again a wild day. Thursday 2nd June was a stableford
competition won by Brian McLauchlan with 36 points, runner up was Peter
Shakespeare with 34 points as did Robert Waite and David Slater who were 3rd &
4th.

A much better
morning weather wise, cool with a light wind but no rain. An excellent turn out
by members today, 38 taking part in a stableford competition. Robert Waite

The Mallards
annual 'Away Day'. 32 members travelled by coach to Woll Golf Course for a day
golf, (a couple of members made their own way). One member got as far as putting
his golfing gear in the coach and slipped a disc, so he pulled out, another
member having paid his dues didn't turn up. But all in all it was a good day
out, the weather was a bit mixed, cloudy, rain and some sunshine. playing a
stableford competition, George Bullamore ran out the winner with 36 points, on a
CPO from Gordon White, Don Hill, on a CPO, with 35 points was 3rd. Following the
competition all the members enjoyed an evening meal before heading home. A good
day!
Thursday 9th June 2011
The day after
our 'Away day' and numbers were down for today's medal competition, not helped
by the fact that quite a few members were playing knockout matches. John
Thwaites was the winner, Jim Lyndon runner up and Ray Arthurs 3rd.

A match
against Maryport seniors at Maryport was the order of the day for a party of
members. A wild windy day for them but a fair result as the match was halved.
Thursday 16th June 2011
Heavy rain
just prior to tee of time had a few members wondering whether to play today, but
fortunately a break in the clouds persuaded them otherwise and the competition
got off on time. Shortly after that the sun came out and it turned out to be a
very pleasant afternoon. 27 members turned out to play a team event, a Yellow
Ball Stableford. The team of Sandy Thorburn, David Slater and Chris Small
returned 80 points for 1st place, runners up was the team of Bob Harrison,
Robert Waite & Gordon White with 76 points

Round 1 of
the Alex McPhee Trophy and after a weekend of rain the day was bathed in glorious
summer sunshine. 30 members turned out
to play in the competition and it was noticed that there were other members out
playing knockout matches, nice to see a good turnout. Alan Watson, with an
excellent 38 points was a comfortable winner from Joe Hardon & David Slater both
with 36 points Joe taking 2nd place on a CPO, Harry Martin was 4th with 35
points. It's was obviously Joe's day today as he chipped in for 2's at the 9th
and 11th, being to only one to record a 2 he collected the pot!
Friday 24th April 2011
Yesterday was
the second round of the Alex McPhee Trophy. The early starters definitely got
the better of the day, unfortunately the later starters had to contend with heavy
rain towards the end of their round and it was heavy, causing a bit of localised
flooding. John Ross one of the early starters took full advantage of the good
weather to return 40 points, Runner up was John Thwaites with 39 points, 3rd was
the Captain, Ian Castle with 38 points, 4th, Jim Samuel also with 38 points.
There was one two recorded. Alan Watson was the winner of the Alex McPhee Trophy
with a combined total of 75 points

A lovely warm
summers day, one could say the first this summer and on a day when members were
playing an 'eclectic' medal. The extra length of the course coupled with the
heat of the day did lengthen the scoring a bit. Still it was great to see 35
members turn out to play. So with a net 73 Ian Melrose was today's winner.
Runner up was Robert Waite with a net 74, 3rd was Jim Samuel also with a net 74,
4th was Brian Rowe with a net 75 and there being no 2's today 5th was Dennis
Massey.

the Hexham Seniors. Those members not travelling played the Hadrian's Course.
Hexham won the match 5½ - 2½
Tuesday 5th July 2011
Monday's
medal competition was played in excellent weather conditions and this was
reflected in some of the scores returned. Roger Rees returned an excellent gross
69 to continue on from his weekend endeavours when he returned a gross 70 and 72
in the club championship just missing out by one shot. Regardless of Roger's
efforts, Alan Watson returned a rather good net 63 to take 1st place, David
Slater was runner up with a net 66. Joe Hardon returned a net 68 for 3rd and
Roger Rees also with a net 68 was 4th. Just the one 2 recorded today
Thursday 7th July 2011
A reasonably
pleasant afternoon for the Captains Stableford and 'Slipper Frog' Trophy. The
early starters did suffer some rain for the first few holes but from then on a
it was fine afternoon. 36 members took part in the competition. Dennis Massey
with a very good 40 points won the 'Slipper Frog' trophy & the Captains prize.
Runner up with 39 points was John Thwaites and 3rd was Bob Harrison. There
were prizes for the nearest the pin at the 2nd hole and the longest drive on the
18th. Bob Harrison was actually the nearest to the pin by a few inches but as
the Captain had decided no person could win more than one prize this prize went
to Jim Cruddas. Sandy Thorburn had the longest drive.

Considering
the weekend of very heavy rain it was good to arrive and find that the golf
course was open. Apart from some flood water on the 3rd fairway the course was
in very good condition. So play we did and 30 members turned out to play a
stableford competition. The early starters did suffer a very heavy shower of
rain but after that it was a very pleasant if somewhat blustery morning. There
were no 2's recorded today so 5 prizes were issued. In order 1st: Jim Samuel 42
points, 2nd: Sandy Thorburn 39 points, 3rd: Robert Waite 37 points, 4th: Derek
Scott 36 points and 5th: David Slater 35 points
