Thursday 3rd February 2011
Winter league
matches were the order of the day and it was a very wild windy day for
those taking part. In addition it was good to see a good turn out by members not
playing in the Winter League and every one was back in before the rain started,
just. Harry and Alan remain unbeaten in the winter league and are now firm
favourites to win the league
Monday 7th February 2011
Ah well,
beaten by the weather again, rain and wind a bit much for the majority so
today's team event was cancelled and will now be played next Monday the 14th Feb
with the same playing partners and times, check the
Team Event Start Times
Reminder AGM Wednesday 9th February 2011
Thursday 10th February 2011
The AGM was
held on the evening of the 9th February 2010 and new Captain for the year, Ian
Castle took up his post and all we can say is he must have prayed very hard
during the night for his 1st day in office to be a good one. Members turned up
to play a 'Flag' and were greeted with an exceptionally bright warm sunny day. So
lets hope he continues in this mode for the rest of his term of office. Well as
mentioned the competition was a 'Flag' competition. Players had an allowance of
64 strokes, (only 16 holes open for play) plus half their handicaps. Two members
managed to have spare strokes on their return to the clubhouse and 3 completed
their strokes around the 18th green. the majority finished on the 16th and 17th
holes. So With 2 spare strokes George Bullamore as the winner, Mike Bland with
one spare stroke was runner up and the following 3 in order were around the 18th
green, David Wrightson, Jim Samuel & Sandy Thorburn
Monday 14th February 2011
Last Monday's
postponed team event took place today. Played in reasonable conditions 12 teams
took part in the event a Team Stableford, one member did fail to turn up so one
team went out as a pair. Playing 17 holes (the 4th out of play at the moment)
the team of Jim Cruddas, Gordon White and Ernie Henderson were comfortable
winners with 96 points, runners up were Peter Gouge, John Ross & Alan Nixon with
94 points, 3rd was the team of Peter Shakespeare, Alan Watson & Mike Bland, 4th
was the Captains team Ian castle, Mike Cross & Jack Carruthers
The Bogey competition that should have been played today will now be played
on Monday 21st February, next Monday.
Thursday 17th February 2011
The
penultimate round of the Winter League matches was the main event of the day
plus a few friendly matches. Harry & Alan had a walkover today, their opponents
conceded, therefore Harry Martin & Alan Nixon are confirmed as winners of the
Winter League, congratulations to both.
Monday 21st February 2011
A rather cool
day for the final round of the Robert Waite Trophy. A bogey competition was the
order of the day, and fittingly Robert won the final round with a +6 score,
Harry Martin was runner up with a +5 score, Mike Bland was 3rd with +2 and
George Bullamore with +1 was 4th. 2's today recorded by Mike Bland and Allan
Benson. Harry with a +10 score over the 3 rounds was the winner of the trophy so
congratulations to Harry
Thursday 24th February 2011
Spring is
definitely around the corner, a lovely sunny afternoon for golf, scores
unfortunately for the majority did not reflect the good playing conditions.
Playing a stableford competition, John Ross with 38 points was declared the
winner, Harry Martin (again I hear you say) was runner up with 36 points, Mike
Bland was 3rd with 35 points taking 3rd place from Peter Shakespeare on a CPO.
Peter was 4th. Mike also recorded the only 2 of the day (yet again!!!!!!!)
Monday 28th February 2011
Another good
day for golf even though it was a frosty start. Playing a Texas Scramble 36
members took part with a bit of a mixed course, the first 9 holes on winter
greens due to the frost but by the time the members got to the 10th, the frost
and cleared and they were playing the full course. the result being that some
good scores were returned. Ian Castle, John Ross & Brian McLauchlan with a net
63.3 won by 0.4 of a shot from George Bullamore, Ernie Henderson & Jim Samuel
63.7, 3rd was the team of Mike Bland, Ian Clark & Douglas Pringle with 65.2
(CPO)
Thursday 3rd March 2011
The final
round of the Winter League was the order of the day. Very much a formality as
Harry Martin & Alan Nixon had already won the event. For all that Harry & Alan
were playing for the honour of being undefeated, and undefeated they were,
following a lot of friendly banter rest of the teams were playing for a better
place finish than others, some improved, others fell!!!!!
Monday 7th March 2011
A perfect day
for golf, a cool & frosty start for the early birds but it didn't take long for
the heat of the sun to thaw the frost, the later starters certainly got the
better of the rapidly improving ground conditions. John Ross certainly had a
good day when he returned an excellent 40 points to take 1st place, and he
recorded a 2 on the 7th. Ian Castle with 38 points was today's runner up. Jim
Cruddas with 37 points and a 2 was 3rd, Robert Waite with 36 was 4th. Joe Hardon
recorded the 3rd 2 of the day.
Thursday 10th March 2011
Not the best
of days for golf, very wild and windy with rain and hailstone showers thrown in
for good measure. Regardless as usual the hardy souls of the Mallards section
turned out to play a team stableford event. Nine teams of 3 took part in the
event and the team of Robert Waite, Brian McLauchlan & Dennis Massey returned a
very good 76 points to take 1st prize, runners up was the team of Ernie
Henderson, Peter Shakespeare & Chris Small with 75 points.
Monday 14th March 2011
A bit of a
frosty morning for the early starters but it was glorious sunshine all the way
today for those members taking part in a 'difficult' 5 club alternative
stableford competition. There is no doubt some members would have an alternative
expression than difficult. Regardless some members did return decent scores no
more so than George Bullamore with 33 points which was more than good enough for
1st place. Runner up was Cyril Hankey with 29 points followed by Malcolm
Mackenzie with 28 points, Jim Cruddas with 27 points & John Ross with 25
points
Next Monday sees the start of the 'Summer Season' with the Captain v Vice
Captain match
Thursday 17th March 2011
At last
winter seems to be over. Today members took part in the final stableford
competition of the winter season. Following a damp morning with light rain it
got out nice for the afternoon competition. George Dunning with 34 points was
the winner, the next 3 members all returned 33 points so on a CPO it was Gordon
White, Ian Melrose & Peter Gouge, 2's recorded by Gordon White, Ray Arthurs &
Brian McLauchlan. Being the last day of the winter season it was also the last
competition for the Snowball Order of Merit. George Bullamore topped the Order
of Merit, so congratulations to George
Monday 21st March 2011
Officially
the first day of spring and officially the first competition of the Mallards
summer season of Golf.
Also it was the Captains Drive in, so at the start of the day Ian castle took up
the Captains Driver and hit a nice ball down the fairway to get the season
underway. Playing 4BBB match play the Captain & his partner won their
individual match against the Vice Captain & his partner and overall the Captains
team won. Highlight of the morning was a 'Hole in One'
by John Ross at the 6th. Following the match the members enjoyed a light lunch
Thursday 24th March 2011
It felt like
summer had arrived early today, glorious warm sunshine all day as the members
took part in a Texas Scramble. Shirt sleeves for the more hardy of us. Ten teams
took part in the event which was won by the team of Harry Martin, David Slater &
Jim Samuel with a net 66.6, runners up was the team of Sandy Thorburn, David
Wrightson & George Dunning with a net 68.6, third was the team of Ian Castle
(Captain), Douglas Pringle & David Blackett with a net 70.1
Monday 28th March 2011
Another
splendid day for golf and it was the 1st individual round of the summer season,
the Opening Medal. David Slater and Chris Small both returned net 70's David
taking top place on a CPO, 3rd was Jim Samuel with a net 73, George Bullamore
was 4th with a net 74. No 2's recorded.
Thursday 31st March 2011
The only
consolation today was that it didn't rain during the competition time but boy
did it blow, it felt like a hurricane was blowing whilst the members were out
playing, this was reflected in the scores returned. John Thwaites with 32 points
was the winner and the following three members each returned 31 points, so in
CPO order, Robert Waite was runner up, Dennis Massey was 3rd and Ray Arthurs was
4th. Robert Waite also recorded the only 2 of the day.
On a sadder note the committee would wish to bring to the attention of the
members that Bill Sixsmith died on the 12th March 2011. Unfortunately no member
had been made aware of this until today.
