Thursday 5th February 2009

Yet again the weather was the winner, course effect by snow. Winter League matches that should have been played today will now be played next Thursday, 12th February. Lets hope Monday's competition can be played

Monday 9th February 2009

After the snows of last week and no golf for a week, the members got out and played a Yellowball team event. On a cool but sunny day and with a hard frost these past few days it made for some interesting fun golf as the ball took some unusual bounce. Never the less there was some very good scores returned with the team of the current vice captain, (soon to be Captain) Alan Nixon, Malcolm Mackenzie & Ian Melrose taking first place with 88 points, Runners up were David McCulloch, Donald Edgar & Roger Rees with 86 points (CPO)

A Reminder that it is the AGM on Tuesday 10th February

Thursday 12th February 2009

First of all the AGM was held on Tuesday night and ALAN NIXON was appointed Captain, his vice captain will be Ian Melrose, so congratulations to both and we wish them a successful year.

So to today, members taking part in the Winter League Competition played the penultimate round today. At the start of the day the leaders were Ian Castle and Derek Smith, unfortunately they came up against the second placed team and lost out and now drop into second place a point behind the new leaders Joe Hardon and John Mason. Conditions were not good today, it snowed for the 3 to 4 hours or so that the matches were played over, fortunately it didn't cause too many problems, cold and enjoyable none the less.

Monday 16th February 2009

With the poor weather and other golf competitions today was the first stableford competition played for 3 weeks and as it turned out it was played in reasonably good conditions, this was reflected in the number of high scores. With an excellent 47 points Gordon Milne took top spot by a comfortable margin from David Hoggard with his fine 44  points. David Slater was 3rd with 43 points and Archie Findlay for the first time in many a month featured in the prizes coming 4ht with 42 points.

Thursday 19th February 2009

The final round of the Winter League played out today. Joe Hardon & John Mason had a comfortable win in their match to be this years winner of the Winter League, so congratulations to Joe & John.

So with the Winter League programme completed the next few Thursdays will be take up with the Snowball Stableford or a Team Event and before we know it, it will be the start of the summer season of golf.

Monday 23rd February 2009

Spring must be getting closer as it was a nice pleasant morning to be out playing golf. 30 members turned out to play in today Team Stableford and the good conditions were reflected in the scores, With a cracking score of 101 points was the team Of Ernie Henderson, Malcolm Mackenzie & Jim Samuel, runners up were Robert Waite, George Dunning & John Ross with 100 points, as the Captain said, tough on anyone with 99 points, so for your info, those with 99 points were Sandy Thorburn, Jim Cruddas & Douglas Pringle

Thursday 26th February 2009

Rains and gales was the forecast for the day, fortunately we escaped the rain but not the wind with a good strong wind blowing all afternoon. For all Mr Castle's hot air that he found it difficult to play in strong wind it certainly didn't deter him today as he returned an excellent 47 points to take top spot, Gordon Milne was his nearest rival with 44 points and John Thwaites with 43 points and his first time in the prizes was 3rd.

Monday 2nd March 2009

For the earlier starters it was a pleasant morning golf, unfortunately the later starters finished in the rain. The past weeks weather has seen a marked improvement in the condition of the course the result being that there were quite a number of good scores recorded today, the result being that 23 of the 32 players taking part had their handicaps reduced. With an excellent 44 points John Mason was today's winner closely followed by Malcolm Mackenzie with 43. Joe Hardon & Allan Benson were the best of a number of players with 42 points.

Thursday 5th March 2009

Winter returned again, just 25 members turned out to play in today's 3 club stableford. Quite surprising the scores that are returned with just the use of 3 clubs, John Mason, with 40 points made it his second win this week. Peter Shakespeare with his first podium of the winter was runner up with 38 points followed by Ian Castle also with 38 points

Monday 9th March 2009

With 41 points he took top spot from Joe Hardon on a CPO. George Dunning was 3rd and Jim Cruddas 4th.

Thursday 12th March 2009

The members enjoyed playing a Texas Scramble team event today. With the weather fine but blowing a gale one would have thought it would be a scramble in more ways than one but not so judging by the results. With an excellent net 54.2 the team of Douglas Pringle, Eddie Robson & John Ross were the winners. Allan Benson & his playing partners Andy McCann & Ray Arthurs were runners up with a net 55.5

On a very wild and windy morning all 10 matches got of a good start and fortunately the rain stayed away so a good day for all. Following the match the members enjoyed a light lunch in the clubhouse.

The Captain wishes you all a good season of golf.

Thursday 26th March 2009

On a day of gale force winds 13 teams braved the winds to take part in a Texas Scramble, besides the winds the competitors had to endure some heavy rain and hailstone showers. Still there were some excellent scores returned. Roger Rees and his partners Archie Findlay & Peter Shakespeare with a net 58 were the winners. Runners up was the team of Derek Smith, John Ross & David Blackett.
