December/January Archive...

Thursday 2nd December 2010

Well a couple did venture forth to the club today, but at different times therefore didn't meet for a cuppa & chat. As can be seen above rather snowy. Roads too the club are accessible without to much difficulty. So between 10am and 11am on Monday members can if they wish wander to the club for a cuppa and chat, hopefully a few will gather.

Monday 6th December 2010

No play!!!!!! snow!!!!!. About 15 members did turn up for a coffee and chat and it made for a pleasant couple of hours or so.

Next Monday's competition, the 13th December, was designated to be a Texas Scramble, but this has been cancelled, it will be rearranged, should there be any chance of golf next Monday it will be a stableford competition.

CHRISTMAS LUNCH ON THE 20TH WILL GO AHEAD EVEN IF GOLF IS NOT POSSIBLE

Thursday 9th December 2010

Snow still blankets the course, looks all very nice but green would be really good right now!!!!!!! A few members travelled to the club today for a cuppa and a chat. Hopefully a few more will gather after 10am on Monday for a chat and cuppa.

It is looking more and more likely that play will no be possible on the 20th December.

So it will just be the Christmas Lunch on the day so members should arrive for 12.30pm for a 1pm lunch.

Saturday 11th December 2010

The golf course has re-opened, there will be golf on Monday morning. Turn up and play a stableford competition.

Monday 13th December 2010

At last some golf and though a bit cool & frosty it was a good day for golf. Surprisingly, considering that few members had been near the club for nearly two weeks an excellent number turned up and played in today's stableford competition. With a very very good 42 points Douglas Pringle was today's winner, Alan Best was runner up with 40 points, Ray Arthurs & Jim Cruddas were 3rd and 4th with 39 points. Alan Nixon recorded the only 2 of the day.

Thursday 16th December 2010

Mostly members playing their Winter League matches braved a very cold day. Theses were the matches re-arranged from an earlier cancelled day.

Monday 20th December 2010

Well surprise surprise there was golf today for those who ventured out and persevered with the cold because cold it was, very cold. The green staff had cleared the greens and they were nice and true to put on, difficulty was getting on the green due to the bounce. 25 members did play and a total of 39 sat done for an excellent Christmas Lunch. The top 3 players were Malcolm Pearson, Jim Cruddas & Malcolm Mackenzie. There was a total of 17 prizes. A highlight of the day was a presentation by management to John Nicoll on reaching his 90th birthday and Harry's Poem. (to read click here)

Thursday 30th December 2010

A very pleasant day for golf and the final competition of the year 2010. Due to ground conditions it was decided to reduce the competition to 11 holes. 16 members did play in the competition, they big advantage was that at the end of play all members were still in the club house for prize presentation. Winner on the day following a CPO was Chris Small, runner up was Ian Castle, both with 27 points, 3rd place went to Brian Rowe with 26 points, 4th was Harry Martin with 25 points and George Bullamore 5th, was the best of a number with 24 points.

As of now there will be play for the Mallards on Monday 3rd January 2011

Monday 3rd January 2011

Courtesy of the management the Mallards Section were allowed tee times on what was a Bank Holiday. So on what may be described as a cool day 25 members turned out to play a stableford Competition. Seems to have been a day of mixed fortunes where some found the scoring easy and others difficult. In reality it was those playing well that scored well as the results will show as Malcolm Mackenzie returned an excellent 51 points some 5 points clear of runner up George Bullamore with 46 points then a couple with 44 points each, Derek Smith & Gordon White. Gordon also recorded the only 2 of the day.

There has been an amendment to the fixtures, Thursday 13th January 2011 will now be Round 2 of Bogey Competition

Thursday 6th January 2011

Winter League Matches was the order of the day. Cool afternoon for those taking part and all close matches today. Jim Cruddas & Peter Gouge recorded their first win which was good as it meant all teams taking part have recorded at least on win.

Monday 10th January 2011

Another day when the weather was the winner, the snow may have been thawing but the ice under it made the course too dangerous to consider any play. The 'Alternative Stableford' will be re-arranged

Thursday 13th January 2011

A much better day at last, pleasant mild sort of day for golf. Today was the second round of the Winter Bogey 23 members turned out to play. Winner today was Chris Small with plus 12, runner up was Graham Orange also with plus 12, 3rd & 4th were George Bullamore and Joe Hardon both with plus 10. 2's recorded by David Slater and Jim Samuel with two

Monday 17th January 2011

The weather (rain) over the weekend caused some flooding on the course in particular the 3rd, 4th & 5th suffering where the river overflowed the bank. Today was mild and pleasant out and thanks to the ground staff they allowed us to play 8 holes which as it turned out were in excellent conditions. So 20 members too part in a mini stableford competition and 5 shared a small pot each returning 21 points. There was quite a few other members out playing enjoying the mild conditions.

Thursday 20th January 2010

Following on from Monday's limited golf due to the conditions things were much better today in that the full back nine was available for play. It was not the best of days to be out as fog persisted all day. So just the hardy souls playing their Winter League Matches ventured out playing the back nine twice.

More than likely just the back nine will be available for Monday's competition so it will be round the back nine twice.

Monday 24th January 2011

Bit of a surprise for the competitors this morning. After being on the short course for some weeks the green staff had all but opened up the full course. But judging by the scores in today's Yellow Ball Team event it didn't seem to make much difference as the scores returned testify. Best of all on the day was the team of Graham Orange, Harry Martin & Cyril Hankey with 85 points, runners up with 83 points was the team of Peter Shakespeare, Jim Lyndon & Derek Smith

Thursday 27th January 2011

A nice dry but cool day for golf and considering the small flood to part of the course last week the course has recovered remarkably well and was in excellent condition. Continuing on from Monday we were virtually playing the full course again, apart from the 3rd which was a winter green. Sandy Thorburn won today with 42 points, runner up was Gordon White with 40 points, Alan Nixon with 39 points was third, new member Alan Watson was fourth with 38 points and Mike Bland was 5th also with 38 points, 2's recorded by Mike Bland x 2 and Alan Watson

Monday 31st January 2011

A cool but very pleasant day  for golf. There was a good turnout by members, 34 taking part in 'alternative stableford' with a mixture of plus and minus scores. The weather made for some excellent scores and the winner of the day Jim Cruddas with 46 points managed to get round without a minus score on his card. Runner up was George Dunning with 44 points 3rd was Sandy Thorburn with 41 points, John Ross & Mike Bland were 4th & 5th respectively with 40 & 39 points. the only 2 of the day was recorded by Eddie Robson
