Thursday 3rd December 2009
No golf
again, only because it was raining and the members that did turn up decided they
didn't want to get wet.
The course has improved since Monday, at the moment 11 holes are open for play,
1,2, 10 and 18 on the clubhouse side of the road and holes 11 to 17 on the other
side of the road. Best plan is 1 & 2 then over to 11 through to 18 giving 10
holes or alternatively 1,2 & 18 then 10 through to 18 again giving 12 holes.
Christmas
Cracker Arrangements
As the Christmas Cracker is due a week on Monday we have to look forward to what
will happen on that day. All will depend on the condition of the course and the
weather.
Assuming play will be available on the day a draw has been make to cover playing
18 holes and a two tee start. An alternative draw has also been prepared to
allow for only 10 holes being open for play. Both draws will be displayed
here and on the notice board.
In the event that the weather or course is such that no play will occur,
Christmas Dinner will still be served and members are
asked to be at the clubhouse around 12.30pm for a 1pm lunch. There
will be a draw for the prizes.
Monday 7th December
Well after a
weekend of being able to enjoy some golf, the rains came overnight and the
course was closed again this morning.
On a sadder note, it is with regret, that the committee announce the death of
John McAleer, who died on Friday 4th December 2009, John has been a member of
the Mallards for many many years.
See below for the Christmas Cracker arrangement
Thursday 10th December 2009
The back 9 holes are open for play, and on a foggy day with visibility down
to a 100 yards those playing the Winter League matches got out and played as did
quite a few other members. Start sheet for Thursday 17th show
here
Christmas Cracker:
It is fully anticipated that we will be playing on Monday morning but there
will not be a two tee start. We expect just to play the 1st & 2nd then the 11th
to 18th, a total of 10 holes. So the alternative start times will be the start
sheet we will be using so check your tee off time.
Monday 14th December 2009
Not a good
start to the day, it was raining at the start of the competition and concerns
that water on top of the frozen ground was cause for the competition to be
cancelled.
About half an hour after the decision to cancel was made the weather changed. A
few of the early arrivals had left with the intention of returning for lunch.
The late arrivals did go out and play.
A total of 39 members did sit down and enjoy and
very nice Christmas lunch. A draw for the prizes was made at the end of
lunch. So a good day for some, golf, lunch and a prize. Other just some golf
and lunch and the rest just lunch.
Lets hope for a better day on Thursday's team event
Thursday 17th December 2009
A good day
for golf, cool but pleasant out, the rain/snow! stayed away and the holes open
for play were very good condition, good to be out. A team event was the order of
the day, a 'Gruesome' played over 10 holes and quite a bit of fun for those
taking part, you soon knew who your 'friends' were. With a fine score of 25
points, Robert Waite & Gordon White took top spot on a card play of from Gordon
Milne and Brian Norgrove also with 25 points.
Please note there has been an amendment to the Winter Fixtures. Monday 8th
February 2010 will now be a Greensome, by popular request.
Monday 21st December 2009
Not a good
day for golf, this time snow is the culprit, and judging by the forecast for the
rest of the week there is little chance of golf this week. So lets hope things
improve for next Monday.
In the meantime A Happy Christmas to you All
Thursday 31st December 2009
Well another year gone by.
A Happy New Year to
One and All
Here's to some good
golf in 2010
Difficult to say when we will get back to playing some golf, but check back
here for updates
Saturday 2nd January 2010
With more
snow falling on the golf course there is no likelihood of any golf next week, it
is doubtful that there will be golf on Monday 11th January so the 4BBB planned
for that day will be cancelled and if by chance we are able to play golf members
can play a Winter Snowball Stableford
Thursday 14th January 2010
First of all a reminder that the AGM will be held in the
club house at 7pm on Tuesday 2nd February. To date there are no proposals to be
put forward, if anyone wishes to make a proposal please contact the secretary,
Mike cross
Snow still covers the course and obviously there is no play, likewise there
is very little activity in the club house and as the members of the committee,
who attended a committee meeting today will testify, the management are taking
the opportunity to redecorate. Gone is the green so dominant.
As for the Winter League fixtures it is a case of wait and see how much
longer the weather dictates, hopefully the thaw has started
The Texas Scramble due next Thursday, 21st Jan has been cancelled. If the
course is open for play we will play a snowball stableford
Sunday 17th January 2010
The good news is that the course will be open for play on Monday 18th Jan, just
the back 9 holes, but the tee off time has been put back to 10am. If enough
members turn out to play we can play a snowball stableford.
Monday 18th January 2010
Good to be back playing, the back 9 holes were open for play and as it turned
out it was in very good condition, very dry considering the snow we have had. It
was fine and very pleasant out with some sunshine. 18 members turned up to play
a 9 hole stableford competition. Ernie Henderson with an excellent 28 points
took first place, Sandy Thorburn was runner up with 26 points and Allan Benson
was the best of a number with 25 points. Just good to be back after an enforced
4 week layoff
Thursday 21st January 2010
A chilly wind blew but it was a lovely day for golf, that course has dried out
exceptionally well and the good playing conditions were reflected in the scores.
Playing a 10 hole competition, Joe Hardon returned an excellent 28 points
followed home by Gordon Milne with 27 points, John Thwaites also with 27 points
and 4th, again with 27 points was Allan Benson. 29 players took part in the
competition.
Monday 25th January 2010
Well an interesting morning golf, we were back to playing the full 18 holes. The course was very good condition
considering the weather problems of the past few months and this was reflected
in the scores that were returned today. 41 members turned out to play today
which is the best turn out we have had for many a week, only 39 played in the
competition, a couple of members only played 9 holes, both just getting back
into the swing of things after illness, but it was good to see them back in
action. Initially it was thought that George Bullamore, a new member was today's
winner with an cracking 52 points, but on checking the score cards it was
discovered that Donald Edgar had denied himself an extra point, so Donald became
the overall winner with 53 points and George was runner up. Douglas Pringle and
Jack Carruthers were 3rd and 4th with 49 points each. As an indication as to how
easy the course played there were eight 2's, Two each for George, Donald and
Roger Rees, Jim Cruddas and John Thwaites recording the other two.
Thursday 28th January 2010
Gosh January
gone already, next competition will be in February. Just the Winter League
Matches and a few friendly games played today. Very pleasant conditions for
playing.
