It was
without doubt that it was the hottest day of the year that the Mallard have had
to play. Today saw the members take part in the Stableford Final with a mixture
of qualifiers and non qualifiers. As it turned out a finals qualifier, Ian
Melrose returned the best score of the day with 36 points. Runner up was Dennis
Massey with 35 points followed by John Ross also with 35 points, Peter
Gouge and Alan Watson with 34 & 33 points. No 2's today. Congratulations
to Ian Melrose on winning the Stableford Trophy.
Monday 26th September 2011
Cool kind of
morning for the early starter but it warmed up nicely as the morning went on. 33

side. Derek Scott with 36 points was today's winner. Runner up was Brian Rowe
with 35 points, 3rd was Chris Small with 34 points and Alan Watson also with 34

Thursday 22nd September 2011
A wild windy
day for the final round of the Medal 'Eclectic' and a poor turn out by members
for this event, just 19 playing, maybe just a well as it was an extremely slow
round taking over 4½ hours. At least the rain stayed
away. George Bullamore with a net 71 was today's winner with a net 71. The
following in order were 2nd 3rd and 4th, John Ross, Harry Martin & Alan Nixon,
no 2's recorded.
Monday 19th September 2011
Today saw the
members take part in a Team Stableford. Playing on a rather damp course
following the very heavy showers over the weekend scoring again was moderate,
but with 73 points the team of Harry Martin, Chris Small & George Dunning took
1st place. Runners up was the team of Jim Cruddas, Alan Watson & John Palmer
with 73 points, the team of Graham Orange, Douglas Pringle & Mike Bland were
third with 67 points.
Thursday 15th September 2011
The day was
excellent weather wise, shame the golf didn't reflect the weather. For some
reason or other members found it difficult to get a decent score today. 24
members took part in a medal competition won by Harry Martin with a net 74.
Runner up was Chris Small with a net 76 followed by David Hoggard & Alan Nixon
both with net 76's and 5th was Brian McLauchlan with a net 77. No 2's today.
Wednesday 14th September 2011
A much
pleasanter day than the previous two days as the Mallards travel to Dalston for
a match against the Dalston seniors. An enjoyable day and a nice result for the
Mallards winning 4½ - 1½
Monday 12th September 2011
What a wild
wild day to be out playing golf, with gale force winds it was surprising that 27
members made the effort to turn out and play. Scoring was very difficult for the
majority, at least one member, Ian Melrose, made a respectable 35 points which
was good enough to win. 2nd, 3rd, 4th & 5th in order were Chris Small, Sandy
Thorburn, David Hoggard & David Slater. No 2's recorded. Start times for next
Monday's team event are posted
Thursday 8th September 2011
The rains
just before tee time was enough for quite a few members to renege turning out to
play, but as it turned out it was a very pleasant warm afternoon for golf with
plenty of sunshine. In the end just 19 members ventured out to play in the day's
medal competition. Alan Watson with a net 70 was the winner, runner up was
George Bullamore with a net 72 and 3rd was Sandy Thorburn with a net 73. The
only 2 of the day was recorded by Alan Watson
Monday 5th September 2011
Good to get
back to an individual competition following a couple of match play events. Today
31 members took part in a stableford competition, played in reasonably pleasant
conditions with an odd shower. 5 members returned an equal score of 32 points,
so in order of a CPO the winner was Mike Bland, followed by Graham Orange, David
Hoggard and Ian Melrose. 2's today recorded by Jim Cruddas & Chris Small
Thursday 1st September 2011
Today was a
match against the Kirkcudbright seniors. Quite a pleasant day a for those taking
part in the match. A close match going in favour of the Mallards 3½ - 2½
It is with regret that the committee report the
death of Bill Ward, who was one of the original founders and committee member of
the Mallards. Bill gave up golf a few years ago and had been ill for some time.

Lovely warm summers day for the Nations Trophy Competition. The 5th year for the competition
in which the English members of the section play a match against the Celtic
members of the section. Some very good golf played and an enjoyable competition
with the Celts coming out on top this year winning by 5½
matches to 3½ matches. Photograph taken by George Bullamore is of some of those
taking part in the event

Round 5 of
the Medal 'Eclectic' was the order of the day. Lovely warm pleasant day to be
playing golf. Considering that it was a medal playing from the white tees there
was a good turn out by members, 33 taking part in the competition. Our captain,
Ian castle had an excellent day returning a net 67 to take 1st place, Harry
Martin with a net 71 was runner up. Third forth and fifth places went to Malcolm
Pearson net 73, George Bullamore, net 74 and Jim Cruddas net 77. One
members had an absolute disaster on the 18th (answers to Sir Gordon) taking 22
strokes to get out of the bunker including the ball hitting himself twice to
finish the hole with a 30, such was the score the computer refused to accept his
score and recorded a N/R for him much to his distain.
Thursday 18th August 2011
Round 2 of the Ralph Ramsden Trophy. On a pleasant warm day 25 members turned
out to play. Cyril Hankey returned a net 72 to take 1st place, runner up was Ian
Clark with a net 73. Chris Small, Ian Melrose & Derek Scott all returned net
74's. Chris & Ian taking 3rd and 4th places on a CPO
Cyril's net 72 combined with his net 73 in the 1st round for a total 145 ensured
that he won the Ralph Ramsden Trophy, so congratulations to Cyril
Monday 15th August 2011
Following a
rain interrupted week with little golf for the seniors it was good to get out
and play today. Cool at first then the sun came out and it turned out a very
pleasant morning for those members taking part in round 1 of the Ralph Ramsden
Medal trophy. 29 members took part. Sandy Thorburn, Francis Fitzpatrick and
David Slater all returned net 72's therefore 1st 2nd & 3rd are in the order the
names are given, 4th was Cyril Hankey, there being no 2's recorded today 5th was
Ian Melrose

The match
against Dalston Seniors at Dalston was cancelled due to the weather and will be
rearranged
Monday 8th August 2011
A cool start
to the morning but the day warmed up nicely for the 35 members taking part in
the day's stableford competition. Quite a pleasant morning after the weekend
rain. Winner today with 44pts was Malcolm Mackenzie, runner up was Sandy
Thorburn with 38pts, 3rd was Malcolm Pearson with 37 pts, Jim Cruddas with 36
pts was 4th on a CPO. 2's recorded by Sandy Thorburn and Alan Nixon
Thursday 4th August 2011
A rather wet
morning but by our 11am tee time the weather had faired up and it looked like we
would get a reasonable afternoon but alas it was not to be. Soon after the
majority had teed off the rains came. Surprisingly though with the weather as it
was 33 members did turn up and play, a few did give up by half way. For those
that soldiered on David Slater again returned an excellent score of a net 67 to
take 1st place. Sandy Thorburn was runner up with a net 72 followed by net 73
and 74 by Chris Small and Alan Watson for 3rd and 4th. David Slater recorded the
only 2 of the day.
Monday 1st August 2011
A damp start
to the day but mostly it stayed fine for today's team event, a Texas Scramble,
though the last couple of groups did get some rain. An excellent turnout by
members today, 13 teams took part in the event eventually won by Harry Martin,
Jim Samuel & George Dunning with a net 65.2. Runners up was the team of Alan
Nixon, Gordon White & George Bullamore with a net 66.5. Third was the team of
