A bright
sunny day but cool and very windy. 30 members turned out to play in today's
medal, nice to see so many on a Thursday. Still the windy conditions didn't seem
to cause to much of a distraction for the prize winners. Don Hill with an
excellent net 67 recorded his first win. Harry Martin with a fine net 69 was
runner up. Roger Rees, well he had an excellent gross 71 today, a net 70 for 3rd
place. Jim Samuel was 4th with a net 71. Ivie McIlwraith recorded the only 2 of
the day.
Roger Rees with a combined gross score of 144 was the overall winner of the
Phil Harrison scratch trophy, he also had the best overall net score of 142 to
win the Handicap Trophy.
Next update will be on the 4/5th June

Thursday 12th May 2011
A wild
blustery day, strong winds and heavy rain showers seemed to be the order of the
day but that did not deter the hardy souls of the Mallards Section. Harry Martin
with a fine 36 points was the winner, runner up was Ian Melrose with 34 points,
Ray Arthurs with 33 was 3rd and George Bullamore with 32 was 4th. No 2's

Match day
again, this time the Mallards were at home in a match against Dalston and a win
was recorded for the Mallards 5½ - ½. Highlight of the
day was a 'Hole in One' on the 13th recorded by George Bullamore, his first
since taking up golf, so congratulations to George.

Thursday 28th April 2011
Seems a while
since we played a competitive round of golf. On a lovely sunny day with a very
cool breeze blowing 26 members turned out a play a stableford competition. With
the ground conditions being dry and firm there was a lot of run on the ball. So
with favourable conditions good scoring was expected. Alas that was not to be.
Only one score over 36 points the rest were 34 and under. So with 39 points our
Captain, Ian Castle was today's winner. Then followed 3 members with 34 points,
following a CPO, it was David Slater, Alan Watson and Sandy Thorburn. 2's today
recorded by Gordon White, John Ross, Peter Shakespeare & Jim Lyndon, Jim
recording his on the par 4 11th.
Thursday 21st April 2011
Another party
of members on the road, this time to Whickham Golf Club for a match against the
Whickham Seniors. A very warm pleasant day for all and pleasant company, just as
well as the result went against the Mallards yet again, still all enjoyed the
days golf.
Monday 18th April 2011
A warm sunny
day with little wind made it ideal conditions for playing. It was the
first round of the 'Eclectic', a medal competition. Reasonable scores were
expected today and a couple were respectable. Peter Shakespeare with a net 65
was a comfortable winner by 5 strokes. Sandy Thorburn with a net 70 was runner
up. Malcolm Pearson and Ian Clark with net 74 & 75 were 3rd and 4th. 2's today
recorded by Peter Shakespeare, Ian Melrose & Ian Clark
Thursday 14th April 2011
A small party
of members travelled to Kirkcudbright today for a match against the
Kirkcudbright Seniors. A pleasant and enjoyable day out but not such a
favourable day in relation to the result, the Mallards lost the match
Monday 11th April 2011
A mixed Texas
Scramble with Eden Ladies took part today and in mixed weather, sunshine & rain
and very cool after the weekends warmth. David Slater is obviously a man in form
as he was on the winner podium again, playing with Irene Bingley and Jim Samuel
David's team returned a net 67.1 to win the competition. The team of Brian
McLauchlan, Julie McFee & Malcolm Mackenzie were runners up with a net 67.8, so
very close between 1st and 2nd. Third place went to the team of Ian Castle,
Lorraine Westren & Joe Hardon with a net 69.3
Thursday 7th April 2011
A pleasant
but cool and windy day, not a wild as earlier in the week but for some reason or
other members taking part in today's competition found scoring very difficult,
there was no defining factor, seems all had 'one of those day's' David Slater
returned a net 73 and his 3rd win of the season, a man in form it seems. Runner
up was Jim Samuel with a net 74. 3rd, 4th & 5th respectfully all with net 75's
were George Dunning, John Ross and Alan Watson
Monday 4th April 2011
A morning of mixed weather, strong winds then rain. The early starters
playing with the strong wind and later the rain while the later started had the
rain to contend with the wind had easy to a breeze. The rain did force one or
two members to walk in and enjoy the comfort of the clubhouse but for those the
persevered there was some decent returns. David Slater with 36 points was the
winner, Runner up on a (CPO) was Malcolm Mackenzie with 35 points. Also on 35
points was Alan Watson, Ian Castle was 4th with 34 points and Derek Scott with
33 points took 5th place on a (CPO)
