April/May Archive...
Thursday 2nd April 2009
Brilliant day weather wise for the
members to play the opening medal of the season. Obviously from the scores
returned scoring was easy. John Thwaites with a net 59 won today, Gordon White
with a net 60 was runner up and 3rd & 4th were John Mason & Ian Clark
2's recorded by David Slater & Francis Fitzpatrick
Monday 6th April 2009
The original fixture for today should have been the mixed event with Eden
Ladies, unfortunately this was cancelled. So a stableford competition was played
instead. Some 32 players took part in the competition and soon discovered that
there were changes to the course, not least of which was the fact that the new
6th green was now in play also that a number of summer greens had been brought
into play. Jim Samuel with 42 points ran out today's winner with Gordon Milne
taking runners up spot with 41 on a CPO from Douglas Pringle & Ian Melrose
Thursday 9th April 2009
A bit of a
windy day with a few heavy showers thrown in made it a difficult day for the
members taking part in a 4BBB stableford competition. Derek Smith & John Mason
with a creditable 42 points were today's winners, with Ian Castle and Derek
Scott taking second spot with 41 points.
Thursday 16th April 2009
The first of the seasons matches took place today. Kirkcudbright Seniors were
the guests of the Mallards and on a wild windy day the Mallards came through 3½
to 2½.
On Tuesday past it was the Mallards Annual Dinner and some photographs taken
by Robert Waite during the evening have been added
Monday 20th April 2009
After a week
without competition, (Bank Holiday and Matches) the Mallards enjoyed an
excellent mornings golf, played in lovely warm spring sunshine. Roger Rees with
40 points was today's winner by one point from David Blackett and David Dalglish
both with 39 points and John Mason 4th with 37 points.
Thursday 23rd April 2009
A team of 12
members of the section travelled to Whickham today to play a match against the
Whickham seniors. The members thoroughly enjoyed the day out but as usual found
it very difficult to overcome the Whickham lads on there own turf.
Monday 27th April 2009
No play today
- rain. It should have been the second round of the 'Eclectic'
Thursday 30th April 2009
Much to the
surprise of the members the heavy rain forecast didn't materialise. For all that
scoring was difficult due to the strong wind that blew during the afternoon.
Only 20 members turned out to play in the competition, quite a few members were
engaged in playing their respective knockout matches. Gordon White with 38
points took 1st place, John Ross with 36 points was runner up with 36 and Gordon
Milne with 34 points was 3rd. John Ross recorded the only 2 of the day
Thursday 7th May 2009
There was no
golf on Monday due to the bank holiday so the members looked forward to enjoying
a team event today. A Team Medal with the two best net scores to count. Played
in pleasant but very windy conditions the team of Gordon Milne, Joe Hardon &
Graham Orange with a net 138 won the competition. With only 20 members taking
part, (quite a few were away playing in another clubs Senior Open) there was
just the one prize.
Monday 11th May 2009
The main
event of the day was the match against Dalston Seniors played in excellent
condition. The result was that the match was halved.
Thursday 14th May 2009
Today's
competition was a stableford, played in cool, dry and windy conditions. A rather
small field played, only 19 members turned up to play, which must rank as one of
the poorest fields for many a year. Nevertheless Ian Castle had an excellent
round today returned 45 points to take 1st place, Jim Lyndon with 39 points was
runner up and Andy McCann 3rd with 34 points.
Monday 18th May 2009
The early
starter copped the worst of the weather with rain for most of their respective
rounds, at least the later starters only had to contend with rain for half of
their respective round and this was reflected in the scoring with the later
starters returning the better scores. Top of the shop was Roger Rees with a
gross 68 and a net 63, a cracking round, probably his best round on Eden Golf
Course. Runner up was George Dunning with a net 74, 3rd & 4th were Graham Orange
& Gordon Milne with net 75's. Graham Orange recorded the only 2 of the day.
Please note that the team event scheduled for the 8th June has been cancelled
and a Medal 'Eclectic' will be played instead.
Thursday 21st May 2009
Today the
members played the second round of the Phil Harrison Trophies. With a strong
wind blowing scoring was a bit more difficult than on Monday. However the
following 3 prize winners all returned net 69's and a card play off was
necessary, so the order of the day was Graham Orange, Jim Samuel & Roger Rees.
Roger Rees and John Mason sharing the 2's pot.
The overall winners of the trophies were. Roger Rees, the Scratch Trophy and
Graham Orange the Handicap Trophy, congratulations to both.
Thursday 28th May 2009
The members
played the 1st round of the Medal 'Eclectic' today, in windy but warm pleasant
conditions. Quite a few members were away playing in a local Seniors Open today
so it was quite a reduced field for the Medal competition. regardless George
Dunning played well enough to take 1st place with a net 72, Joe Hardon was the
runner up and Brian McLauchlan was 3rd. David McCulloch recorded the only 2 of
the day, not the best of days to take the 2's pot
